Good Mental Health is significant for the people employed in infrastructure equipment rental industry for conducting safe operations of equipments and successful completion of work within the stipulated deadline.
To raise awareness about the significance of good mental health and the ways to maintain it, a crane rental company, Express Equipment Rental & Logistics Pvt. Ltd (EERL), recently organized a seminar for its employees using the art therapy for wellbeing, a psychotherapy that encourages people to explore their deepest emotions, enjoy freedom of expression, and communicate through creative activities. Karan Gandhi, Executive Director EERL organized the seminar while Rijuta Banerjee – a professional psychologist conducted the art therapy seminar.
Speaking on the significance of good mental health in infrastructure equipment rental industry, Karan Gandhi said, “Good mental health is just as important as physical well-being. The energetics that we work with can be dangerous, so we need people that are mentally and physically present.”
“Operating heavy equipment in risky locations and environments while under mental duress is putting the workforce and the public at risk. So, there is always a risk of reduction in the capacity to focus and perform safely each day and, on each task,” he added.
“Long hours, periods where they might be working away from home, builds pressure on the individual and relationships. We feel workers find it difficult to discuss feelings and emotions with colleagues at work, and the nature of the work has made social support more difficult. Mental health is a continuum,” he added.
“It impacts one’s ability to focus and concentrate on the work because their mind may be elsewhere”, said Karan Gandhi
Therefore, we at EERL are focused on raising awareness for good mental health though effective and direct communication with all levels of the industry through newsletter, general awareness, professional therapy sessions & counselling sessions for both blue- and white-collar employees
World Health Organization (WHO) says, mental health is an integral part of health; it is more than the absence of mental illnesses. It is the foundation for well-being and effective functioning of individuals. It includes mental well-being, prevention of mental disorders, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Rijuta Banerjee explained, “the risk of mental health is greater the longer it plays out.”
Stressing on the importance of recognizing early symptoms and addressing them, she said,” the message here is not to wait until you’re in the depths of depression or significant symptoms to act or reach out for help. Notice early on when you’re starting to struggle and use the tools and resources you have”
“Now, the treatments are readily available and that no one is alone and no one is a burden. There are people who can help and want to help,” she added.
WHO also conceptualizes mental health as a “state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.”
