Being the largest buyer of the construction equipments, the role of construction equipment rental industry is significant in infrastructure development of the country. Today, over two thirds of equipments in India are sold to equipment rental companies.

Recently, Rishi Sanghvi, Managing Director, Sanghvi Movers Ltd, in an interview to bauma CONEXPO INDIA had said, “Over the last 10 years, Construction Equipment Industry has been booming in India and there are number of end users and equipment rental companies who are purchasing these equipments for massive infrastructure projects”.

Stressing on the need to improve safety and quality of construction, he added “mechanization plays a big role in infrastructure as it brings down the amount of manpower and time required to execute the project. It also improves safety and quality of construction”.

Jitender Aggarwal, Chairman & Managing Director, AGGCON, said, “Indian rental companies should adopt best processes and practices from international rental companies particularly from European and US rental companies and adopt modern methods. Rental Industry Leaders will have to push for transformation of India’s rental industry”

“Indian rental industry should focus on sustainability – its economic, social, and environmental aspects in line with the goals of Global Rental Alliance (GRA). The rental industry leaders should come together and work on the policy for reducing carbon footprints,” he added.

Rental industry has been facing dearth of trained operators and therefore, many times this has also prevented equipment rental companies from buying latest technology equipments. Here, Sanghvi Movers has been creating a pool of trained operators on its own.

Incidentally, it is the first rental company in the India to establish a crane training academy.

Rishi Sanghvi said, “We created it almost 10 years ago in our company and have trained 1000 operators so far. We have an apprentice programme to train junior operators where they are trained by senior operators. This takes 5 years to 15 years”.

He also told, “as the profile of our customers is changing and India is going more global in EPC, the requirement for skilled and technical operators has gone up. Now a days, customers also demand for trained operators. Therefore, the focus is on training the operators and bringing back the Indian talent that is working in Middle East countries”.

Jitender Aggarwal said, “Trained operators are key in the rental industry and it is because of efficient and safe operations of equipments, a rental company can deliver with excellence. They are the brand ambassadors of a rental company and hence important for image building of a rental company”

It is to be noted that construction equipment rental companies currently are dependent on OEMs and IESC (Infrastructure Equipments Skill Council) for training of operators.
